Broadband data speed test

What is data speed?

Broadband data is information being sent or received over your broadband service comprising, for example, a webpage, document, spreadsheet, or image.
Data speed refers to how quickly this information is transmitted over your Provider's network.

Australian Broadband Guarantee data speed

All broadband service providers registered under the Australian Broadband Guarantee program are required to meet minimum data speeds for their services. They are subject to independent testing on a monthly basis and results are reported on the ABG website.

For service Providers under the Australian Broadband Guarantee in 2010-11, the average data speed must be at least 60 per cent of the nominal peak speed of your broadband service plan, both download and upload, and this must be achieved at least 85% of the time. For example, if your broadband service plan is 1024/256 Kbps, your average data speed should be at least 614.4/153.6 Kbps at least 85 per cent of the time. Services delivered under the program prior to July 2010 are required to achieve a minimum average data speed of at least 60 per cent of the nominal peak speed at least 75 per cent of the time.

You can test your individual Australian Broadband Guarantee service by following the process described below (under "How do I conduct my data speed test?").
